Background
Broomford Holdings
The seeds of the group’s success were sown in the early 1980s when our current CEO, Jim Egan, formed Kierbeck Limited, a steel reinforcement supply operation based in an open field in Loughton, Essex. Through hard work and perseverance, the company expanded rapidly to become the largest privately owned rebar company in the UK and was highly respected in the field.
The company’s first foray into property development happened by chance in the 1980s. Having outgrown its original external facility the company purchased a three acre site in Stratford, London, now part of the London Olympic Village, containing a building suitable for easy adaption for steel fabrication together with an array of surplus buildings. Thus the company evolved organically into commercial property through the refurbishment and repurposing of the old spare units resulting in the creation of 24 secondary industrial units with an average size of 2,500 square feet. Being located in the heart of East London the units let like hot cakes to a variety of end users whetting our appetite to explore the property market further.
The goodwill of the steel company, Kierbeck Steel Limited, was subject to a well-structured MBO in the early 2000s and Broomford Holdings Limited was formed to take over the property division, so named after the country estate in Devon to which the CEO and his family moved post MBO.
